Rafael Toral - Wave Field
WHO HERE LOVES MY BLOODY VALENTINE'S LOVELESS?
Rafael Toral plays experimental electronic instruments and calls his style of music post-free jazz electronic music. That's almost a direct rip from his his website's biography but it's pretty damn accurate. He also creates drone/ambient works, of which he does a great job.
NOW BEAR WITH ME! THE MBV THING IS COMING UP!
Ambient and drone music is what he's probably best known for, for better or worse, primarily because of his wonderful album Wave Field, of which it's cover is a tribute of sorts to the aforementioned My Bloody Valentine's intensely adored Loveless. One could say the album is a tribute to Loveless in itself, but that's not fair since Kevin Shields didn't invent the drone. That said, it does sound like is an extended coda to Loveless that maintains that fever dream vibe for another fifty minutes, so whether you're listening to this for the ambient bliss or the MBV sound, you should find yourself pleased.
Despite posting this excellent release here, I can't help but feel that I'm misrepresenting Mr. Toral's body of work. Lucky for my conscience and anyone interested in his works, his website is extremely detailed and features plenty of samples to examine. So, if you like this, please pay him a visit and examine his catalog.
