Aphex Twin - Melodies From Mars

The story behind this album isn't very detailed. Tapes of Melodies From Mars were given to friends at Warp and Rephlex. The music may have been intended as soundtracks for videogames, if not simply videogame inspired music, though no one really knows for sure. Apart from Fingerbib and Logon Rock Witch, both of which appeared on the Richard D. James Album in slightly different forms, none of the other tracks have been released, nor are their names known.

Despite being a little sillier and more relaxed than other Aphex releases, it's got a pleasant charm about it that's unique unto itself in Richard D. James' discography, making it really a shame it never saw release. Maybe someday Richard will do some archival releases, but I won't be holding my breath.

This is a brand new V0 rip from a very clean FLAC source created from, at least as I understand it, an original cassette. I think it's more likely the source is from a low generation copy of an original cassette, but regardless, the quality of the recording is very good! So, please forgive a lack of details like previous Aphex posts, but I'm sure you'll find this album very entertaining.

Oh yeah, one more detail, the artwork featured here was created by a fellow named Bradlay Law (yeah, that's how it was spelled, it's not a typo on my part). It is NOT the real artwork, of which none may exist.

PS - Two quick updates. First off, if you've been checking the flickr page of Schematic and Miami related flyers and artwork, there was a big update today bringing the total number of images to 64. If you haven't checked it out yet, go there now!!! Also, starting the 28th, there will be a week long collection of Prince-related posts. A few rare albums, rare singles and more unreleased Prince goodness will be featured, so make sure you check it out. Don't wait til then to come back though, I've still got tons of stuff to post and I'll still be updating the page regularly!
