Arcade Fire - Scenes From The Suburbs

Last year the Canadian indie-rock band Arcade Fire released it's third and critically acclaimed album The Suburbs from which is the same-titled first single, directed by Spike Jonze. Now the same Arcade Fire/Jonze team have released a 30-minute short film inspired by the video of "The Suburbs". It's really interesting narrative about the events surrounding the main characters in the video.

I like french music but this one isn't french. On the contrary it's Canadian, it comes from Montreal and the clip is super-cute. I personally like it a lot. Here's the latest (for now) video from Canadian rocker Panache for his song "Filles et Garçons: un dilemme" from his new eponymous album.

Chains Of Love

Here's a very nice six-piece surf/garage-rock band from Vancouver, Canada. So far only one release but nevertheless a good one. Think of them as a modern version of The Ronnettes or The Shangri-la’s and they kinda remind me of Davila 666 who visited Bulgaria last year. For some free stuff check their bandcamp page.

The Rural Alberta Advantage - "Stamp" (video)

Better late than never. Found this canadian indie-rock band just recently but I gotta admit I'm diggin' their sound. Really nicely performed indie-rock with some folk motives. Anyways here's the official video for the first single off their second album Departing. The band released another song from that same album called "North Star". Both songs are made available for free download.

Justis

Couple of years ago Nas said that Rap is dead. Maybe but few are helpin' with the bandagin'. But hip-hop ain't dead and it will never be as long as there's still kids listening to J Dilla or A Tribe Called Quest. Fortunately for all of us there are such individuals. Here's one that comes from Ontario, Canada, Justis a.k.a. Justin Vail. How I came across him? Dj Vadim mentioned him on his myspace page and I got interested right away. The guy's fresh, got a smooth flow and a conscience not polluted with all this money/cars/women kind of shit. He also shows his love for jazz music, something clearly evident in his debut album "Just Is". You see the love between jazz and hip-hop is old and probably as strong as John Coltrane and Naima's. Haha. Now seriously this two go together perfectly and are the basis for many alternative hip-hop acts. Justis only proves the aforementioned with my favorite song off that album "Jazz Music" although it's not the only one influenced by this particular genre. I strongly recommend his album as it's one of those rare gems you'll find yourself listening to over and over again. I think fans of true hip-hop will appreciate his efforts. Justis, "Just Is", Do Right! Music.
