Arcade Fire - Scenes From The Suburbs

Last year the Canadian indie-rock band Arcade Fire released it's third and critically acclaimed album The Suburbs from which is the same-titled first single, directed by Spike Jonze. Now the same Arcade Fire/Jonze team have released a 30-minute short film inspired by the video of "The Suburbs". It's really interesting narrative about the events surrounding the main characters in the video.

Vancouver Riots: Another Female Car Owner in Distress and a Few but Brave Men

As time goes by, more and more people are uploading videos from the recent Vancouver riots. Perhaps one of the most shocking and appalling incidents was the one that involved the three young females defending their BMW M5 from the mob, and which we showed you earlier in the day.

However, we discovered yet another film of a woman trying to save her vehicle (it looks like an Audi, but we’re not sure). The only difference here is that unlike the BMW incident, some men actually intervened when one of the hooligans tried to take a swipe at her.

And they weren’t the only ones to take a stance against some of the more violent and foolish hockey fans; if you follow the jump, we have a few more clips of men trying to knock some sense (literally…) into the Vancouver rioters.

Video Shows Three Women Trying to Save their BMW M5 from Vancouver Hooligans

Make no mistake; you can find hooligans in every country and in all sports. The colors and language may change, but there’s a common denominator that crosses all cultural lines: idiocy of the utmost degree and the complete lack of compassion towards fellow human beings.

The huge riots in Vancouver, Canada, after the Canucks' loss last week to the Boston Bruins for the Stanley Cup, are a prime example of this kind of ill mentality.

We saw several people injured, shops looted and properties destroyed, but this particular incident involving three young women and their BMW M5 sedan, stood out for a great number of reasons. The three women were hopelessly trying to fend off an army of male individuals from kicking, jumping, breaking and throwing whatever they could find on the previous-generation M5 saloon.

It’s one thing describing the incident and another watching these men (if you can call them that…) turning into animals just for the fun of it. And what is even more disturbing is the fact that from all these people surrounding the vehicle, not one person tried to intervene to help these women. Unbelievable…

The King of Overkill has Found his Queen in Toronto

And by “King of Overkill” we mean, of course, the….how should we put this delicately… excessively ornamented Porsche Cayenne SUV photographed outside a dollar store in Ontario, Canada, last week by Carscoop reader Jonathan Fernando.

This blonde Swedish diva [aka a previous generation Volvo S40 finished in a yellow hue] was spotted all dressed up and ready to meet the king of her dreams at a parking lot in Toronto, Canada, by another one of our readers, James Dong.

The King of Overkill Captured in Canada by Carscoop Reader

If there was ever a prize for the crappiest application of decorative ornaments and decals of any sort on an automobile, this here Porsche Cayenne would win the contest hands down. I mean, just look at it…

We first showed you the Porsche Cayenne with the Ontario license plates last Friday, but today, Carscoop reader Jonathan Fernando spotted the car parked outside –wait for the drum roll- a….Dollarama store and didn’t waste the opportunity to snap a few photos.

Justin Bieber Returns Home to Stratford Ontario – Selena Meets the Family - Photos

After a grueling three years away from home, teen heart throb Justin Bieber finally made it back home.

Bieber, accompanied by his girlfriend Selena Gomez, returned to Stratford Ontario Canada for a little well deserved rest and relaxation.

The Bieb’s took in 9 holes of golf at the Stratford Country Club and then signed autographs and took photos with fans who had gathered outside the pro shop.

It’s unclear if his dad Jeremy is also in town, but it would not surprise us to see him emerge with Justin’s two step siblings.

The local television news channel “I on Stratford” kept close tabs on Bieber and Gomez as they moved around town, but gave the couple, his Aunt and Uncle, and younger cousins plenty of space and always respected their privacy.

Justin and Selena Visit Stratford Ontario

This is the first time Selena has visited Bieber’s home town of Stratford, and it’s unclear how long the love birds will hang around. Selena was seen several times with the entire family.

Just last week the two visited Selena’s hometown in Texas for a big family gathering.

Bieber was also seen with his best friends Ryan Butler and Chaz Somers as they played a little basketball with the boys. Bieber can be seen sporting what appears to be a new tattoo of a star on his left elbow and an earring in both ears.

Justin and Selena were also spotted at the Swiss Chalet restaurant where they dined on lunch before visiting “Scoopers” ice cream shop for dessert.

Wednesday, Selena was spotted with JB’s mother Patti Mallette and his grandparents eating at Madelyn’s Diner while Justin worked out at a Stratford gym. Later in the evening the love birds took a romantic walk along the Stratford Upon Avon River.

One local says,

“They looked completely in love with each other. Justin had his arm around Selena and was showing her the swans in the river. Selena looked really happy and seemed captivated by the swans. She kept pointing at them. After they walked around the river, they sat on one of the bridges for a little while. It’s a really romantic place to go because it is so peaceful and you are surrounded by nature, and at night the entire area is lit up with lamp posts. It’s very romantic.”

It also looks like Justin might be trying to prank the media and paparazzi while visiting home. Bieber was wearing an earring on both ears and had what looked like a new tattoo of a star on his left elbow.

Justin sports another tattoo and two earrings

Last week, Bieber visited Selena’s Texas home town of Grand Prairie and appeared in a photo with a temporary tattoo of the ace of spades card on his arm - making some believe he is looking to see if the media will go into a frenzy like they did when he got his new Hebrew “Jesus” tattoo.

One media expert told us,

“It’s most likely a prank. The internet absolutely exploded last week when he showed his new tattoo in Hawaii, and I think he is trying to see if he can prank the media by getting everybody to run a story that he has a new tattoo and earrings in both ears.”

Update:

It has been confirmed - Justin DOES HAVE a new five pointed star tattoo on his left elbow. His dad Jeremy also has the same star tat on his left elbow. It was confirmed Friday after several people in town said they had seen it and it was real.

No one is sure how long the couple will remain in Stratford, and Bieber’s next public event, the much talked about College Track Benefit concert, is not until June 11th at the Mountain Winery.

Related: Bieber to host benefit – tickets cost $40,000

He is also working on his third album, and concert dates for his Latin American tour are said to be released soon.

So, Justin was in Selena’s home town last week and met her parents, and this week she’s in Stratford hanging out with the entire Belieber family…. We think this may be starting to get serious.

And we so go for it and wish them the best. Get it while you can!

Chains Of Love

Here's a very nice six-piece surf/garage-rock band from Vancouver, Canada. So far only one release but nevertheless a good one. Think of them as a modern version of The Ronnettes or The Shangri-la’s and they kinda remind me of Davila 666 who visited Bulgaria last year. For some free stuff check their bandcamp page.

Jackass Star Steve-O Arrested in Canada for Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Poor Steve-O. I guess it’s true what they say – once a jackass always a jackass.

Seems Steve, real name Stephen Gilchrist Glover, was arrested while trying to enter Canada yesterday for assault with a deadly weapon. But there is a twist.

The assault happened way back in 2003, eight years ago, when the star was heavily abusing drugs and alcohol and assaulted an unknown person with an unknown deadly weapon while in Canada.

By the time the police investigation was done Steve had already left the country.

Yesterday, while going through customs at Calgary International Airport authorities noticed the 2003 arrest warrant and took him into custody.

No sweat. Steve-O bailed himself out using ten thousand dollars in CASH that he happened to be carrying. Now he has to return in May to face the judge.

What a jackass. Maybe Charlie Sheen can take Steve-O on the road as his winning warlock tiger blood warm up act. It seems the two would get along just fine.

This is true - Steve graduated from Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College in 1997 but was never accepted for any clown gigs so he returned home and started doing Jackass type videos and sending them to skateboard companies trying to get work.

Somehow he ended up on television. How did that all work out?

As of today, Steve has no television, movie, commercial, radio, or book projects scheduled and appears to be, well… an unemployed clown.

Handsome Furs/Davvid Project/The Barbarones

Handsome Furs/Davvid Project/The Barbarones @Sofia Live Club 09.12.10

Fresh from the madman's head comes the following words.

For the first time in my life I attended synth-pop-new wave-indie rock concert and i have to say that it was more than a good one. The evening started slowly with the first band of the night being Davvid Project. Dark, ambient synth-pop with nice female vocals. Not bad at all. I have to admit that I liked most of their songs. Alas they didn't play long.
Next to my amazement on the stage came the headliners of the concert, Handsome Furs from Montreal, Canada. One thing I didn't understand is why the headliners are second and not last. Every fuckin' concert that I've attended so far the headliner always plays last. Stupid organization I guess. But that led to people leaving the club after the canadians finished their set. Which left little audience for the third last band.
But anyway back to Handsome Furs. From all the bands tonight I liked them the most. And it's perfectly understandable as their music is the closer to my musical taste than the other two bands'. Handsome Furs' music I can describe as noisy, synth, indie rock with a pinch of punk. It's not the punk I was looking for but still I wasn't disappointed by them. Their set was fast and loud and made the people dancing. The canadians definitely knew how to keep the people's attention for the duration of their performance. Screaming did help too. Husband and wife Dan Boeckner and Alexei Perry proved that their chemistry is not only offstage. This duo deserves more recognition for their unforgettable live shows. Handsome Furs are indeed a band worth seeing live. And I'm sure the locals appreciated their efforts too. Tonight they won a new fan. Or maybe a couple. Anyways, hope to see them again.
Third and last for tonight were The Barbarones. Their music was somehow more mellow and calm compared to Handsome Furs which resulted in more people leaving the place and the rest just sitting and watching. Barbarones' garage sound was a nice change after the beautiful, noisy, synth chaos of the canadians. Alas it was not enough to keep the audience moving (they were moving but in the opposite to the stage direction). Still the band left a positive impression in my mind.
Overall it was a good night. I had fun and I'm not regretting for going to see those bands. Their style was not the kind of music I'm listening normally but I have to say that it was a good idea to change the music as I'm growing bored from all this hardcore concerts I'm attending these days. The evening was well worth it!

Scottish Folk/Punk Explosion With The Real McKenzies

Cheers mates!

There isn't many bands that sound good when you're drunk and when you're sober. The drinking music has to be always loud and alive, full of sing-a-long anthems to brighten your day or just make your drink more enjoyable (or an excuse to act as an idiot). Now few bands can actually gather enough strangers in one place and make them sing songs that they're not custom to. One of those bands is the canadian Real McKenzies who successfully managed to blend scottish folk with punk music in a way that'll make you wanna jump and shout "Bugger Off" as loud as you can. It's understandable that I was pretty excited when I heard that the Vancouver based punks are gonna come to Sofia for a one night concert. That's a thing not to be missed as the canadians would probably never again set foot on these lands again so it was absolutely obligatory for me to go see them. And that I did. Oh boy, what a concert it was. The vibe, the weather, the atmosphere was perfect for the event. I remember being super-excited about it and there was a pretty good reason for it. The band itself went on stage without much noise and started playing. I was overwhelmed when I first heard the bagpipe. Absolutely massive. It' like a dream come true for me as I always wanted to see live a combination of irish/scottish folk with punk. And I was definitely not disappointed by them. Except their well-known songs Paul McKenzie sang some acapppela songs that really made me think that this guy's into it. It seemed like McKenzie was having fun until some fool tried to ruin the show but to no avail. As a true pro Paul McKenzie kept singing while the security guard beat the shit out of the poor fellow dared to interrupt the concert. Can't say that he doesn't deserved giving his actions towards McKenzie. Good thing that the latter turned to be a sport and just kept singing and drinking. How not to love a screaming drunken punk with a kilt. I think that at the end Paul and the lads gave their best to make the local crowd happy. And happy they were. If only the band could bring some gals in kilts next time that'll be a complete bliss. Alas only time will tell if such thing is to happen again in Sofia.
