Brainiac - superduperseven

The story of Brainiac is pretty sad, but only because it was so promising up until its end. They were from Dayton, Ohio, had released three albums and a number of singles, and were on the verge of a contract with Interscope Records when Tim Taylor, their lead singer, was killed in a bizarre auto accident. From there, no reissues, no posthumous releases, the band simply faded away and the remaining members went on to new projects. Truly sad.

If you're not familiar with Brainiac, they were kind of like a spazzier Devo with a taste for noise. My suggested starting points are the Hissing Prigs In Static Couture album, then check out the Internationale EP, which was produced by Kim Deal, and the Electro-Shock For President EP which is more of an industrial/noise experiment than their previous releases. Their first two albums, Smack Baby Bunny and Bonsai Superstar, are both worth checking out but Hissing Prigs and the two EPs are truly excellent.

There is also an excellent EP/single released on Limited Potential Records called superduperseven, their actual first release, but it's been out of print for years despite fans of the band looking for it feverishly. So, it is with great pleasure that I share with you today a fresh vinyl rip of the excellent superduperseven single/EP/release/thing. It's really a solid release and if you like this, don't hesitate to get Hissing Prigs with the quickness! You can also find more information about the band at their wikipedia reference. Enjoy!
