Christian Marclay - More Encores

More Encores is a great starting point for Mr. Marclay's works, with him limiting his selections to one specific artist for each track, although that doesn't really limit someone like Mr. Marclay as what he does with the source material makes it into something brand new.

More Encores was initially released in 1989 on German label No Man's Land as a 10" record. It was reissued in 1997 on ReR Megacorp on CD and again on 10" vinyl. The liner notes are presented below.

Each piece is composed entirely of records by the artist after whom it is titled. John Cage is a recording of a collage made by cutting slices from several records and gluing them back into a single disc. In all other pieces the records were mixed and manipulated on multiple turntables and recorded analog with the use of overdubbing. A hand-crank gramophone was used in Louis Armstrong.

As this isn't a review, I'm not going to bore you with hyperbole about my feelings for each track, but the Zorn and Strauss tracks are easy favorites and the Cage track is incredible! If you enjoyed the Record Without A Cover or are simply interested in his works, this is one to grab. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do!
