Today is 24th of May. We bulgarians celebrate this day as the Day of the Bulgarian Enlightenment and Culture and the Slavic Writing. This is a national holiday in Bulgaria and it's celebrated because of the creation of the first slavic alphabet (Glagolica or Glagolitic alphabet) from the byzantine brothers Cyril and Methodius. Later it was reworked by one of their students, Kliment, into what is now known as cyrilic alphabet or Kirilica, named after his teacher Cyril. The first celebrations of this day dates as early as the early 19th century. It is a major holiday in all of Eastern Europe and Russia. Happy 24th of May!!!
