Vivian Girls - "Take It As It Comes"

Yay! Buddy Holly is reincarnated in the bodies of three wonderful ladies playing damn good garage-rock. What I'm talking about is Vivian Girls and their new song "Take It As It Comes" taken from Share the Joy. Absolutely brilliant song that takes me back to the early rock and roll years with it's catchy character and melodic guitar riffs. I'm absolutely hooked to it. If you're feeling exactly like me then get the song for free from the link below.

Bleached – "Think Of You"

Cool new track from sister duo Bleached, both members of LA-based Mika Miko. The song is actually a pretty good indie-pop and is included in the sisters' upcoming “Carter” 7″.

Доста готина песен от сестринското дуо Bleached, като и двете мацки са бивши членове на разпадналата се вече Mika Miko. Песничката е всъщност доста добър инди-поп и е включена в предстоящия седем-инчов сингъл “Carter”.

Dark Times

And I continue the subject of Scandinavian music once more with this noise-punk band from Oslo, Norway. They're relatively new band with only one demo released so far which you can hear below and if you like to download for free. Noisy distorted guitars, angry vocals and general sense of bitterness and disappointment can be felt from their music as their songs touch on a variety of different topics such as alienation, resentment of posers and pain. Really dark and raw music that comes from this female-fronted punk trio.

400 Blows - We Killed Like Champions

Stream of the new song "We Killed Like Champions" from American noise-punk band 400 Blows's forthcoming album Sickness and Health is available from Decibel Magazine's website. Check it out below.

Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine

That's probably not a new thing for real punk fans but for all the rest it might be. Well Jello Biafra known worldwide as the vocalist for influential american punk band Dead Kennedys is back with a new band, Jello Biafra And The Guantanamo School Of Medicine, and new material including one EP, Enhanced Methods Of Questioning and a debut album The Audacity Of Hype, both released via Alternative Tentacles. Gotta admit that their music sounds like the good old DK which is great if you ask me. Same raw, angry and overly-political punk that we all came to love. After all it won't be Jello Biafra if it isn't political, right? Definitely worth checking out and if you dig it you can grab one of their songs for free from the link below.

Sublime with Rome - "Panic"

Well at first I thought "Sublime without Bradley is not Sublime at all" but I gotta admit that the new song of Sublime with Rome sounds damn good. Check it out below and if you like it go see the band. They're gonna be performing in Athens, Greece on 15th of June.

Anchors - Bad Juju

Australian punk band Anchors is set to re-release it's debut album Bad Juju. This Melbourne-based punk band offers a nice fast punk similar to Strung Out or A Wilhelm Scream. You can hear the album stream here and get a free track from their bandcamp page.

Flogging Molly - "Don't Shut 'Em Down" (official video)

Well I'm sure you've heard about it but if you haven't Flogging Molly are back with a new album and video. Here's the video for "Don't Shut 'Em Down" from Speed Of Darkness the band's sixth studio album already released via SideOneDummy.

Death Is Not Glamorous - "Invincible Summer"

Originally Against The Odds was conceived as a punk/ska/hardcore blog but lately it's everything but punk/hardcore. Truth is that I got interested in alot and different things, some new, some old. But to be honest I've never forgot my one and only passion - punk/hardcore music. It's true that I didn't have much punk or hardcore stuff to write about this month but this doesn't mean that I'll completely ignore this kind of music. On the contrary. Today I got something that will appeal much to y'all. Lately I've been into lots of scandinavian music and I'm sure it was noticed. Well this post won't be any different. The band concerned in this case is Death Is Not Glamorous from Oslo, Norway. Fast hardcore punk influenced by the likes of Shelter, Saves The Day and Turning Point. Well they're gonna release their second album Spring Forward via Dead & Gone Records and they just released a new single off that album titled "Invincible Summer". I think it's pretty good one. Keep an eye for the album too.

Lost Boys, F.A.Y.D., Razvrat i Pokvara

Razvrat i Polvara came first onstage. As the opener act they did real good. Izzy, Jitsata and the rest of the band did a superb show as always. The angst and bitterness that comes from their music is nicely complimented with some fast and raw guitar riffs and when you add Izzy's angry voice and you're in for some real immense and passionate experience. Which was also appreciated by the crowd who supported the band with constant sing alongs and pogo. Thee nazi bastards were also present there as well as one english crust punk and all of them were in the pogo although to me it looked like the brit is scrubbing the floor instead of dancing. At one point Izzy stopped singing because of the nazi bastards who got little aggressive in the pogo. There was people complaining about that. Some even left. But things got better afterwards (or so it seemed). The band did mostly their old songs plus some new ones, probably from the forthcoming split with FAYD.

The second band for that night was F.A.Y.D. Those kids are really passionate about their music and that is evident every time I watch them. Fast and angry hardcore is what they do and they do it bloody good. No one stays indifferent during their performances and that was clear from the brutal moshpit and stagedivings that happened during their play. From what I can tell they played most of the songs from their 2010 demo and finished their set with a cover of Razvrat i Pokvara's "Vsichko Se Promenya". By that time the crowd was more than ready for the headliners.

Lost Boys are a four-piece punk band from Lyon, France that plays fast, angry, raw 80's punk. Clearly influenced by the likes of Circle Jerks, Angry Samoans, The Adolescents and JFA, Lost Boys are by all means not a tribute band but a band with appreciation for the old-school american hardcore punk bands. Still they did a great job covering Circle Jerks (World Up My Ass), Angry Samoans (Gas Chamber), JFA (JFA) and MIA (I Hate Hippies). Lost Boys have released couple of damn good EPs and splits which you can download for free from their tumblr site. They sound really good but it gets hundred times better when you hear 'em live. Really damn good band which by the way performed couple of days ago here in Bulgaria for two consecutive nights in Plovdiv and Sofia. I went to the second show in Sofia and I gotta admit it was great until some nazi skinheads decided to fuck things up. Well not exactly. It was more of a verbal abuse towards one punk girl who obviously wasn't happy to share one club with those fuckers. Fortunately nothing serious happened because of the security but the nazi scumbags stayed in front of the club obviously wanting to cause some more trouble to that poor gal. Good thing that Lost Boys took the girl in their van and later dropped her in safe distance from the venue (and just in front of me). I don't know what happened afterwards with the fuckers. The night for me ended drinking under the stars with that same girl and couple of her friends. What can I say except that those frenchies are a bunch of really cool guys. Seriously, I talked with them after they finished playing and they were really cool about the whole situation. What can I say more? If you ever stumble upon these guys go watch them. You won't regret. Real hardcore punk with attitude!

The Death Set - We Are Going Anywhere Man/Slap Slap Slap Pound Up Down Snap

Now that's catchy. Latest singles and videos from american art-punk band The Death Set from their second album Michel Poiccard. Well it's far from what I perceive as punk music but it's nevertheless good. Check it out.

Getting started...

Nothing really new. Just few songs that I wanted to share. Because the day seems grey and I'm not in the mood for somethin' heavier. So here's some videos to start the day with.

1. Figurines - "Hanging From Above". taken from the danish indie-rock band's fourth studio album by the same name

2. Bon Iver - "re:Stacks". ninth song from the indie-folk outfit's debut album For Emma, Forever Ago

3. Titus Andronicus - "A More Perfect Union". first song from this punk/indie-rock band' second studio album to date The Monitor
