Celluloid - The Electro Years - Why Is It Fresh?
Not much to say about this other than it is a great compilation of early eighties electro hip-hop from the Celluloid label with luminaries like D.ST., Fab 5 Freddy and Afrika Bambaataa's Time Zone. It also contains Futura 2000's Escapades Rap which features The Clash as the backing band. There are also appearances from Bill Laswell, Nicky Skopelitis, Bernard Fowler, Bernie Worrell and many more. Hell of a line-up, eh?
It's probably not so important to others but this compilation was assembled by Christophe Monier, better known as French electronic monster, The Micronauts. I'm a huge fan of Monier's work and even though he only assembled this collection it still shows his ability to pick tracks that give a great representation of the Celluloid label's history while also including wonderful rarities for the trainspotters.
Whether you're a newcomer to the Celluloid label or a well traveled electro lover, there is something for everybody here and you shouldn't hesitate to grab this one. Enjoy and have a nice weekend!
