The Paperbax, four-piece indie-rock outfit from Sofia, Bulgaria fronted by Larry and Rebecca, is a band that I've known for quiet some time and yet never saw live. They should have been called the band of missed opportunities as they've got the perfect sound to achieve even mainstream popularity but somehow their efforts were unnoticed. I guess that most of us were way too busy with everything else to notice something as good as The Paperbax. Shame on us (including me). Now the band is no more. I've never had the chance to see them performing live and that's a big miss for me. What we actually missed was our very own take on bands like The Jesus And Mary Chain and Sonic Youth and that's unforgettable giving the fact, that one will hardly find something similar around here if such thing exists at all. Formed in 2000 The Paperbax quickly gained a regular spot the among those playing in the non-existing now legendary O!Shipka and 3Ushi clubs. After couple of year they self-released their first demo in 2003 simply titled "Ten Demo Trax" which the band distributed at gigs. Their first and only official release to date is "Mondegreen" EP which was scheduled to be released in 2007 via First Time Out Records. The record is still available for purchase as well as a free download from their last.fm page. The EP contains 5 songs that at least to me are clearly influenced by the aforementioned bands. My personal favorite song off that EP is with no doubt "My Love Letter My Suicide Note". Truly great track. I would recommend the EP to all fans of the alternative sound. It's a real shame that this was not followed by another release. In conclusion I will say that The Paperbax are a really good band that deserved greater recognition.
