The Social Network gets released on DVD and Blu-Ray Tuesday and it comes with a feature length documentary on the making of the film which includes extensive footage with
Trent Reznor and
Atticus Ross talking about the recording process and the equipment they use. Very cool stuff, especially if you've ever wondered about
Reznor's studio configuration. One other cool bonus is the inclusion of
Reznor and
Ross' first draft of
In The Hall Of The Mountain King. Apparently
David Fincher asked them to channel
Wendy Carlos for their version, and while her influence can be felt in the that piece and the soundtrack as a whole, it's positively bubbling over here! It's rather
TRON-esque actually. They made the right choice leaving this draft on the cutting room floor in favor of the version in the film, but this is nonetheless an incredible opportunity to hear an unreleased
Reznor recording. The whole documentary is very cool and the footage with
Reznor and
Ross will make your head spin, regardless of whether you're a fan or a gearhead. And the movie, whether it's totally factually based or not, is one of the best of 2010, so don't ignore it! For now, enjoy the first draft of
Reznor and
Ross' interpretation of
Edvard Grieg's In The Hall Of The Mountain King!
