Today the sixth of May all Bulgarians celebrate St. George's Day (Гергьовден) as a national holiday named after the saint St. George the Victorious. It is also a Day Of The Valour and The Bulgarian Army with St. George as it's patron saint. It's also celebrated by shepherds as well. It's official holiday since the ninetieth century. Saint George was according the sources a high-ranked roman soldier during emperor Diocletian's rule who died defending the Christian faith. Since then it became one of the most venerated Christian saints especially in the Eastern Orthodox Church. Happy St. George's Day!!!
